Preemie Baby Clothes
Isn’t having a baby one of the greatest joys? Well, two new arrivals are expected soon at the agency. New or gently-used preemie baby clothes for twin baby boys that are due in late October or early November are needed to help bring these little ones come into the world with the basic necessities. The clothes can be dropped off at the emergency shelter at 652 West 17th Street or a donation can be made online so the staff can purchase the needed baby items to help a family in their time of need.
Halloween Costumes
Although Halloween costumes are not a basic necessity of life, they do cheer up the
children dealing with the serious issue of homelessness every day in the agency’s shelter. Gently-used Halloween costumes are needed for the twenty-five children of all ages staying in the emergency shelter. Please bring the Halloween costumes to the emergency shelter at 652 West 17th Street any time, day or night. Another option is to donate online and the staff will be able to purchase Halloween costumes for those children in need.
Kitchen Utensils
NEW place settings for approximately 60 homeless people are needed. The forks, spoons, plates, etc. will be used to serve daily meals and can be plastic. The current place settings are very worn after many years of use. Please consider purchasing new place settings or donating online so the agency can have the funds to buy these much-needed essentials. Currently, the shelter is at full-capacity, which is unusual for this time of year.

Golfing for a Good Cause!
September 18th, 2008
The Kiwanis Club of Erie and Community Shelter Services are once again partnering to help the homeless children in the Erie area have a better quality of life.
The proceeds from this year’s golf tournament, which will be held on June 29th at the Lakeview Country Club, will help children and their families have a nutritious meal, a warm place to sleep, and comfortable clothing.
“It is always a fun and exciting way to help those children in need in our community,” says Lynne Poyer, a board member for the Kiwanis Club of Erie.
One of the most thrilling moments from last year’s golf tournament was drawing the winner of the Cobra golf clubs,
donated by National City. Joe Murphy, a member of the Kiwanis Club, (pictured on the right) drew the winning ticket that was held by Tim Hilton (pictured on the left). This year’s golf club raffle includes irons by TaylorMade, which were donated by Iadeluca Chiropractic Center! YOU could be the winner of this year’s golf clubs! Tickets are 1 for $10 and 3 for $25. You can purchase tickets by stopping at Community Shelter Services at 655 West 16th Street.
And if you’d like to golf or consider purchasing a hole sign, please do not hestiate to download the information by clicking postcard_printable1.
Many members of the Kiwanis Club of Erie volunteer at Community Shelter Services throughout the year by reading books to children, selling raffle tickets, and donating school supplies to children at the agency. If you are inspired by the generosity of the Kiwanis Club of Erie, please consider volunteering by emailing denise@communityshelter.org or call 455-4369 x 28.
